Love Story, Jennifer Echols

Love StoryLove Story by Jennifer Echols

My rating: 2 of 5 stars

((Blurb taken from Goodreads.com)) For Erin Blackwell, majoring in creative writing at the New York City college of her dreams is more than a chance to fulfill her ambitions—it’s her ticket away from the tragic memories that shadow her family’s racehorse farm in Kentucky. But when she refuses to major in business and take over the farm herself someday, her grandmother gives Erin’s college tuition and promised inheritance to their maddeningly handsome stable boy, Hunter Allen. ((Read more at Goodreads.com))

If I could give this book a 2.5 star rating I would but only for Hunter and the horses. I want to start off by saying I LOVE Jennifer Echols. I have adored every single book of hers I have read so far and that, I think, was why I was so disappointed with this book. The beginning was great, I loved how we got little glimpses of the characters through their stories I thought it was an amazing writing device. I loved Hunter and adored everything there was about him for the first half of the book. I loved him sleeping on her roommates bed, I loved all the little details and I loved how Erin loved New York but missed the horses back home. What I didn't love is hidden behind the spoiler tag.

The rest of this review contains SPOILERS. Do not continue reading if you don't want spoilers about the book!!!

I did not love how Erin developed into this strange, jumping to conclusions, whiny girl. I did not love how very unclear the story was. Was Hunter in it for the money? Did he care about her at all? If he really loved her from the time they were younger, why even agree to the arrangement? Was he in love with her when he slept with her? Were they together in the end? How the heck did that happen? Did they lose their grants/scholarships? Will they finish school? The last half book was just so amazingly unclear and the ending was so abrupt that I actually thought my Kindle had broken and the pages weren't flipping like they should. I ended this book frowning and that just made so disappointed because I felt like so much more could have been done...it seemed unfinished.

Anyone else use Chrome?

I can not get google connect to work to save my life. I want to follow all of your blogs but I can not get this thing to work. Is it because of Chrome? It is driving me nuts. Am I the only one having issues? I would use IE but for some reason IE hates my laptop and runs so slow on this machine. I suppose I am wondering if anyone has any experience on fixing this issue without...you know...throwing my laptop out the window because that was kind of my next course of action. If I see....

We're sorry...
We were unable to handle your request. Please try again or return a bit later.

I might just cry or scream or something else equally irrational and dramatic.

Booking Through ((Sunday)) #1

I came across an awesome meme Booking Through Thursday and decided to give it a try! These things are new to me so be gentle. Also, I know it says Thursday but I switched it on over to Sundays because...today is Sunday and I wanted to start today! So here we go!

This week's BTT is an interview with me, how awesome is that?!

1. What’s your favorite time of day to read? I read all day whenever I get a chance. My all time favorite time to read though is whenever I get my coffee. (I am a Starbucks addict!) I will go outside, bring all the dogs out and sit on my porch swing reading, drinking my coffee, smoking a cigarette (I am also addicted to nicotine, I have a lot of vices) and watching the dogs (also addicted to dogs, have four of them) play. It really is one of my favorite times of day.
2. Do you read during breakfast? (Assuming you eat breakfast.) I do not eat breakfast. I never have for some reason, not since elementary school. It upsets my stomach. The only exception is maybe McDonalds hashbrowns. (Another vice?) I will eat those in the morning.
3. What’s your favorite breakfast food? (Noting that breakfast foods can be eaten any time of day.) I loved eggs!
4. How many hours a day would you say you read? It depends on the day! If the husband is gone all day, I could read for five or six hours and then get everything done that I needed to do in an hour because I am cool like that. On a normal day though, I probably read for an hour or two...sometimes three.
5. Do you read more or less now than you did, say, 10 years ago? More as of recently. 10 years ago I read a lot as well but then it sort of tapered off. Once the husband got me a kindle fire though, I went back to reading like a maniac.
6. Do you consider yourself a speed reader? According to a test I was made to take in college, I read around 700 wpm on a screen (1000 wpm on paper) with a 91% comprehension. So yep, I read rather quickly.
7. If you could have any superpower, what would it be? The amazing power to eat whatever I liked and still maintain the perfect weight? Is that a super power? If not, I vote that it should be. If we are talking typical super powers than...to fly.
8. Do you carry a book with you everywhere you go? I used to carry one a lot but I now carry my kindle EVERYWHERE. It's amazing.
9. What KIND of book? Whatever book I was reading at the time! If it was a big hardcover book, I would just carry a bigger purse!
10. How old were you when you got your first library card? Probably around six or so...maybe eight? I remember doing the summer reading program there when I was really, really young.
11. What’s the oldest book you have in your collection? (Oldest physical copy? Longest in the collection? Oldest copyright?) I don't think I own any cool older books. I can say the book that I have owned the longest is Follow my leader it was published in 1957 and I have owned it since I was 6 years old or so which would make it..21 years in my possession!
12. Do you read in bed? Sometimes but oddly enough I prefer to read on the couch until I am exhausted and then go to bed.
13. Do you write in your books? Text books, yes. Fiction books, no.
14. If you had one piece of advice to a new reader, what would it be? Don't limit yourself to just one genre! A few years ago, I began reading paranormal fiction and that was all I would read. Now I have gone on to memoir's, young adult fiction, historical romances....there is just so much out there! You never know what you might love.

The Unofficial Zack Warren Fan Club

The Unofficial Zack Warren Fan ClubThe Unofficial Zack Warren Fan Club by J.C. Isabella

Welcome to the big leagues. To secrets and scandals. It's all about the game. Who's playing. Who's not. Who has no idea about the game. And...wait, what game are we playing?
I'll leave that for you to decide.

My rating: 3 of 5 stars

This wasn't a bad book. It was somewhat interesting but the writing style kind of threw me off. It just didn't seem to flow well, some scenes were not well set and there were some grammar and formatting issues. Normally I wouldn't do a story summary at all but the one above (taken from goodreads.com) is only part of what was listed at goodreads and the whole thing was really, really long so I will briefly give you a little insight into what the book was about. Basically, Chloe had a crush on Zack since she was a kid. She makes a fan club and the club grows and grows...and Chloe grows out of the club but the other members don't. It's a secret that is hard to keep once her mom marries Zack's dad and they are suddenly step siblings.

The story line was interesting but I think it could have been fleshed out more and there could have been more tension built up. There was the potential for a lot of drama and emotional outbursts but the author didn't really develop those. The outbursts that did occur seemed forced and out of place. I wasn't really interested in it, I didn't really HAVE to know how it finished like I do with some books. I finished it because it was okay. I think the author has a lot of promise and I would like to read another of their books later on after she's developed a little bit more. I got this book for .99 from Amazon and, like I said, it wasn't a horrible read...just needed a bit more work to be a really good read.

January Challenge

For those of you that aren't members of goodreads.com but are avid readers....go! Go join! I am addicted to this website and even more so, I am addicted to the group Never too old for for YA groups. There are is an awesome group of people there who make me laugh and are just as addicted to books as I am! Not only that but I have discovered so many great books through these ladies!

For a few different reasons, I have not yet continued the Outlander series. I still need to read Voyager. One of the reasons that I have not continued was because I got annoyed with the back and forth between time. The big reason though is that I am participating in (yet another) challenge. This one is from the group I mentioned above. For January, the challenge is contemporary romance. I have been so stuck on paranormal for so long that this challenge was a welcome and well needed change. I have been flying through these books! So that is the reason I have disappeared and there hasn't been many updates. However, I think what I am going to start doing is just sharing my reviews from Goodreads onto the blog. It seems simple enough to do!

That being said, they will have to be tweaked a little because generally I don't put a summary of the book on my reviews. I don't go through plot lines or give play by plays of the book. I am not that great of a reviewer but I am pretty good at giving my opinion and that is exactly what I do when it comes to books. I will tell you if I enjoyed it, if the characters drove me insane, if it feels like the book was rushed or if it was paced too slowly. Those are the kinds of things that you can expect from my reviews. Sometimes I don't have a lot to say, sometimes I do but no matter if it is pages long or a few sentences, you will definitely know if I think a book is worth your time or not.

With all that said, soon enough you will be seeing some of those 'opinion reviews' popping up!

Happy Reading!
