Then Jake makes Tru a job offer she can't refuse - travelling the world with him and his band. But taking the job means leaving Will behind, and being on the road with the band means spending an inordinate amount of time with Jake. 

Is Tru strong enough to resist the delectable bad boy who once held her heart so completely, or will she willingly risk it all for one night with the worlds most notorious womanizer?

I need more. I need to know what happens next in their lives! This is a perfect set up for a sequel! Yes, it also works as a stand alone but I need to know more. I may be slightly addicted to Jake. Maybe. Okay, I am. The first step is admitting it, right?

I was so close to not even getting this book. I don't like love triangles. Actually, that is putting it way too mildly. I HATE love triangles. However, Will was a perfect catalyst for the first conflict in the book. He was actually so nice that I disliked him for being so nice. What can I say? I'm a sucker for a bad boy. Especially a bad boy rocker. Put a nice guy in front of me and then put a rocker next to him and you best believe I'll be summoning my inner White Snake groupie.

I really thought this was going to be one of those books that let me down in the middle. I thought that the big conflict would be resolved and then I would get bored. Wow, was I ever wrong on that one! If anything, I enjoyed the second half of the book even more than the first. I loved seeing that raw, aching emotion that just made you want to cry on behalf of everyone involved. That kind that makes your heart squeeze in your chest until you feel like taking a deep breath would just be too difficult. That was the second half of the book for me.

That being said, all gushing aside, I did have some moments of annoyance but I can't recall (at this moment, I am sure if I searched I might find one) any book that I didn't have those. My main issue was Tru's stubbornness. I could almost understand it though after things were explained a bit more thoroughly. My advice? Get annoyed with her, get aggravated with the situation...

and then keep on lovin' Jake.

Shelf Candy Saturday

Here we are again! I hate when I miss Shelf Candy Saturday so I decided to do it tonight before I go to bed. Yeah, I'm a bit of a night owl.

Let's get down to the details, shall we? Shelf Candy Saturday is a meme hosted by the lovely ladies over at Five Alarm Book Reviews. It's purpose is to showcase cover art that we find beautiful/interesting/unique/intriguing, etc.

This weeks book is Possess by Gretchen McNeil!

I have to admit I have never read this book. I have not even actually heard of this book until about ten minutes ago. If I don't have a book off the top of my head that I want to feature, I generally go on goodreads and just start flipping through book covers. I've actually discovered some really great books this way. This one definitely sounds pretty interesting. Even more intriguing than the summery, of course, is the cover!  (That is what caught my eye, after all!)

Is this one of the creepiest, most eerie covers you have seen?! I don't know how I missed this one up until now. I love how everything around the girl is blurred. It leaves me wondering if the trees are a part of her or if she is translucent? It looks like the trees disappear beneath her shirt in the lower left hand corner and beneath her hair that is laying over her shoulder. I want to know what those trees represent. Are they the demons? A manifestation of the voices? The colors featured on the cover are perfect to give off that creepy sort of feeling that should come along with a book about demons and demonic possession.

Since I haven't read the book, I can't tell you if it is an out of the ball park sort of 'wow' book but I can say, I definitely the cover is and I am adding this book to my TBR pile for when I feel the need for a piece of nice, creepy, YA fiction!

As summer turns to Arctic winter, Miranda, her two brothers, and their mother retreat to the unexpected safe haven of their sunroom, where they subsist on stockpiled food and limited water in the warmth of a wood-burning stove.

I wasn't sure how I was going to feel about this book when I first started it. The format of the book is a diary. Each day (sometimes skipping some days between) Miranda will write about what happened that day, what she is feeling that day, what the others in her family or town were doing or even what the cat did.

It might not sound that interesting to begin with but then take into the fact that life as they knew it (hey, I see where the title came from!) is over and it gets a lot more intriguing. I really liked the idea of this apocalypse. Well, as much as anyone can like any idea of an apocalypse. I wouldn't say that it is my preferred method of the end of the world or anything but I like how it is explained. Keep in mind, I am not a scientist. I don't know if this is even possible to have happen but it sounded good when I read it. Basically, a massive asteroid collided with the moon and knocked it all off kilter. We all know how important the moon is. It controls the tides and.......all sorts of things (again, quite obviously not a scientist). So, needless to say, the moon got all jacked up and thus, the world got all sorts of jacked up.

So that's what sets the story but what really makes the story is Miranda and her reactions. I warmed up to the diary format because it really showed the way Miranda was dealing with everything. She dealt with it all very much in the way a teenage girl would, in my opinion. At times she was a horrible, selfish brat and other times she was responsible and caring. One day the entry would be about how much she loved her mama and the next day was all "I HATE THEM ALL!". I would say that is normal for any girl, especially one who is starving, dirty and feeling pretty hopeless.

It's not the best post-apocalyptic book but it is a really good one, in my opinion. ((If I wasn't such an Ashfall groupie, I would maybe have given this 4.5 or 5 stars. Maybe!))

I literally download every single kindle book I see that is free and I might, maybe, someday read. Does this mean I read them all? No. Absolutely not. Most of the time I just sit there and look at them and then go and buy a book for 2.99 that I really wanted to read or that got rave reviews somewhere.

Anathema was a book I got for free and it sat on my kindle for awhile. I was flipping through my books and saw it and thought hey, that is kind of a cool cover and then I also thought what the heck does Anathema mean? So I decided to sit down and read it.

Thank goodness I did! Anathema really is a hidden gem! This is saying quite a bit because I haven't read a vampire book that didn't seem trite and boring for me in ages! I didn't even know it was a vampire book going into it. I was just intrigued by the cover and the title. The characters are amazing. K.A. Tucker has a way of giving details of the characters in a way where it seems natural, not a run down of their history that is out of place and bogs down the story.

Caden is a great romantic interest. I can't wait to see how he adapts in the later books. He was mysterious, strong, intriguing and just sweet enough to make you want to hug him. Rachel was a heinous, evil wench and the best kind of villain - the one you love to hate. I seriously had the urge to scratch her eyes out myself. Evangeline for me, flip flopped from being a great lead to someone I wanted to shake. She is extremely naive and very gullible. The thing that kept me liking her though was that she knew she was naive and gullible. It wasn't just a plot device. It was an acknowledged fault and downfall of the lead character. Because of that, I was okay with it even though at times I wanted to yell at her to stop being so darn trusting!

Anathema really left you wanting more from beginning to end. It beautifully entwined two separate story lines and brought them together in the last quarter of the book. There was so many loose ends tied up and it was like the light bulb moment - everything suddenly started to make sense. It was a great book and I will definitely be being the second one. I can't wait to see how things turn out!

Oh! Side note, I am not quite sure why this book is titled Anathema. The definition of Anathema...

a·nath·e·ma/əˈnaTHəmə/ Noun: Something or someone that one vehemently dislikes. A formal curse by a pope or a council of the Church, excommunicating a person or denouncing a doctrine.

Did I just miss the part of the book where it explained this? Is it implied because she is hated by...well, I don't want to give anything away. That was the only part I was confused about!

Waiting on Wednesday! (More like May!)

Can we just change name of this meme for today? Because I would love to change to Waiting on MAY. So many books on my "need-this-now" shelf are coming out in May! I am just going to highlight a couple of them so you can see what I am waiting on!

If you are feeling like a heavy book that might leave you heartbroken pick up Remember to Breathe however, I HIGHLY suggest you don't do it until after May 1st. You are going to need the sequel as soon as you are done with the last word of the first book. I am so anxious to read this book. It is going to be one I either absolutely love or absolutely hate, I know it!

So, I know a lot of people are waiting on this book. It's not shocking to see it on any list. I am really hoping this book is amazing and not a let down like a certain other popular dystopian whose sequel came out this year. I really like divergent and I am crossing my fingers that this series doesn't have that "sophomore slump" that so many series (and even trilogies!) fall prey too! I am also wondering if there is going to be a big love triangle...ugh. So over love triangles! 

Of Poseidon by Anna Banks

I am so excited for this book. I've never read any mermaid type books and this book just sounds so unique. I am definitely ready for something unique! The same old, same old stuff is great because believe me, I LOVE it. I read enough of it that I must love it but something new and entertaining sounds great too. This is one that I definitely will pick up on release day!

There are more books I am looking forward to in May, like, of course Bitterblue by Kristin Cashore and In Honor by Jessi Kirby. May is going to be a super busy reading month! 

Booking through Thursday

Today was a rough day. Remember that cute little pup in my last post? She's currently in training to become a service animal. She's supposed to be well trained. She's gone to enough classes and seminars to be a freaking expert on being a model of good canine conduct. Well, this afternoon, she tried to jump through a window.

Don't worry, she is fine. However, my window is not. It is broken. So, I pack up Roxie, put her fancy back pack on and march her to Lowe's to figure out how much her little hissy fit (she was mad because one of the other dogs and myself were outside and she was not) was going to cost me. While we were checking out, out of no where, she breaks out with WOOF WOOF WOOF in her big girl bark at some random guy. Poor dude jumped like three feet in the air, she scared the jeepers out of him! Yeah, so not pleased with my little prodigy today. Oh, and Lowe's, after telling me it was no problem to replace my window, blah blah was out of glass. So, I have a garbage bag taped to my broken window. Very classy.

That being said, I desperately need to just sit and chill, participate in some fun memes and then retire to my bed with my kindle and a (hopefully) good book! So, without further ado, Booking through Thursday!

If someone asked you for a book recommendation, what is the FIRST book you’d think to recommend (without extra thought)?

That is a VERY tough question! There are so many good books out there and I know at least five off of the top of my head that I would recommend. Of course, this imaginary person would have to enjoy the type of books I enjoy. Either way, the very first book that came to mind was...

 

  When thirty-year-old English tacher Anna Emerson is offered a job tutoring T.J. Callahan at his family's summer rental in the Maldives, she accepts without hesitation; a working vacation on a tropical island trumps the library any day. T.J. Callahan has no desire to leave town, not that anyone asked him. He's almost seventeen and if having cancer wasn't bad enough, now he has to spend his first summer in remission with his family - and a stack of overdue assignments - instead of his friends.  

 Anna and T.J. are en route to join T.J.'s family in the Maldives when the pilot of their seaplane suffers a fatal heart attack and crash-lands in the Indian Ocean. Adrift in shark-infested waters, their life jackets keep them afloat until they make it to the shore of an uninhabited island. Now Anna and T.J. just want to survive and they must work together to obtain water, food, fire, and shelter. Their basic needs might be met but as the days turn to weeks, and then months, the castaways encounter plenty of other obstacles, including violent tropical storms, the many dangers lurking in the sea, and the possibility that T.J.'s cancer could return. As T.J. celebrates yet another birthday on the island, Anna begins to wonder if the biggest challenge of all might be living with a boy who is gradually becoming a man.

This book is just amazing. I wasn't planning on loving it, I actually just picked it up because I needed a contemporary book for a reading challenge. Then I started reading it and I could not put it down. The details are perfect, absolutely perfect. They aren't overwhelming to the point where it gets boring but just descriptive enough to really draw you into the story. You feel like you are there on the island with T.J and Anna. The way that T.J grows and matures is addicting to read about. The way Anna deals with the emotions of being stranded with this young man pulls at your heart. The epilogue is the most perfect wrapping up to any story I have ever read. The writing is smooth and easy to read and consistently engaging! I really can't recommend this book enough, the plot is amazing, the writing is outstanding and I am more than happy to recommend this book to anyone!

Waiting on Wednesday is a weekly meme hosted by Breaking the Spine. Yep, here I am, piping in on a random meme that I don't always participate in. I thought it sounded fun though and there are quite a few books that I am really looking forward to come late spring and early summer. That being said, the purpose of the meme is to highlight books that we are waiting to be published! So here we go!

Okay, So, I am looking forward to this book why? Well, for one, I have heard a lot about Deb Caletti and I have never read any of her books. I figured I would hold out and let this be my first one. Another reason I am looking forward to it? I absolutely LOVE the cover. It is just beautiful to me. It makes me want to read the book and find out more about it. I am already rooting for the girl in the book and I know pretty much nothing about her. I am so intrigued that not even the threat of a love triangle is making me want to miss this release. I am over the top, out of my mind sick of love triangles so that is saying quite a lot.

So that, my lovely book friends, is what I am waiting for! What upcoming release are you excited about?!
